Madison Sq. Garden’s James Dolan Defends Facial Recognition Tech

James Dolan, executive chairman of Madison Square Garden Amusement, is not backing down from his stance on working with facial recognition technology to ban men and women from coming into the famed New York Town location.

On Thursday, Dolan appeared in a televised interview on Fox 5 New York and dealt with the backlash he’s received for his use of facial recognition program to prevent persons from getting into MSG and other noteworthy venues, including Radio Town New music Corridor.

“Facial recognition is just the engineering. I imply, when I walked into the studio, did you realize my confront? Facial recognition! Know-how just would make you better at it,” Dolan informed anchor Rosanna Scotto. “The true issue that is heading on here is our coverage of not permitting attorneys who are suing us into our developing right until they are carried out suing us. When they’re completed, they’re very much welcome back.”

In December, the New York Condition Liquor Authority issued an advisory letter that claimed the location would face “disciplinary action” in regard to its liquor license as a final result of the bans.

Dolan responded to this in his interview, stating that the lawmakers are staying “extremely aggressive, and they’re indicating, ‘We’re gonna consider away your liquor license.’ So I have a very little surprise for them.” He went on to demonstrate that he’s taking into consideration shutting down alcoholic beverages product sales for a night at the Yard.

“Instead (of providing alcohol), where by we provide liquor, we are going to put a person of these up,” he mentioned, showing a poster with a photo of Sharif Kabir, CEO of the State Liquor Authority, and his contact facts. “If you would like to drink again, please phone Sharif Kabir, chief govt officer … and tell him to stick to his knitting,” Dolan reported.

The facial recognition feud started out when MSG blocked entry to a team of attorneys who operate for a business currently associated in litigation against the location. “If you are suing us, we’re just asking you you should never appear right until you’re finished with your argument with us, and indeed, we’re utilizing facial recognition to enforce that,” he reported. “Our values are essential to us — the Garden has to defend itself.”

Before this week, Condition Lawyer Typical Letitia James requested MSG supply “justifications for the company’s policies” in a letter despatched to Yard officers. “MSG Amusement can not battle their authorized battles in their own arena,” the letter read through, citing that somewhere around 90 regulation companies were afflicted by the choice. “Madison Square Yard and Radio Metropolis Tunes Hall are entire world-renowned venues and really should treat all patrons who purchased tickets with fairness and regard.”

Underneath a monthly bill launched to the state Legislature on Monday, MSG and other athletics venues would not be capable to bounce celebration-goers from entry if they have a legitimate ticket. A spokesperson for the location responded in defense of its new coverage, stating it only excludes a “small proportion of lawyers” through lively litigation and is not in violation of federal civil rights rules.

“Our coverage does not unlawfully prohibit everyone from moving into our venues and it is not our intent to dissuade lawyers from representing plaintiffs in litigation in opposition to us,” the statement go through. “We are just excluding a small percentage of lawyers only through active litigation. Most importantly, to even counsel any person is being excluded centered on the guarded lessons discovered in point out and federal civil legal rights legislation is ludicrous. Our plan has by no means utilized to attorneys symbolizing plaintiffs who allege sexual harassment or employment discrimination.”
